New agreement between Politecnico di Torino and ESA. The comment of Ithaca

Turin, 21 July 2023

The Politecnico di Torino and ESA – European Space Agency have signed a Memorandum of Intent to develop a strategic collaboration aimed at defining and implementing shared research and training projects. This strategic partnership, the result of discussions over the past few months between ESA and the “Foresights and strategic Planning Office” of the Politecnico di Torino, represents an important step forward in promoting academic excellence and scientific research for the advancement of the aerospace sector.

Under this agreement, the two institutions intend to collaborate in the common interest of achieving the highest quality standards in the teaching of disciplines related to Earth observation techniques. The purpose of the agreement will be achieved by sharing the solid knowledge base between the two institutions in their respective and shared fields of expertise, promoting future opportunities for collaboration, including at the international level.

In particular, the agreement envisages the possibility for researchers from the Politecnico di Torino to become “visiting researchers” at ESA, spending a period of study and research at the European body’s facilities.

A comment from our Managing Director Marco Valle:

This agreement is the result of a long journey that this territory has undertaken in the aerospace sector. As Ithaca, we are proud to be able to contribute with our experience and expertise in the field of Earth Observation, together with Politecnico di Torino and LINKS Foundation. For some years now, we have been collaborating with the European agency by providing services related to the increasingly urgent topic of climate change: from rapid mapping for natural disasters to monitoring the effects of climate on our territories. From today, we are ready for new challenges
